High-Clearance Steering ![]() The steering is all done and ready for the ram assist. No bumpsteer, even though it looks like there may be a problem with different angles. I think the different lengths of the trackbar and draglink even things out. Tie rod and drag link are both 1.25" solid 'stressproof' tube. The TREs are all Chevy one-ton, and the knuckles are Wagoneer. The steering arm came from a friend on Pirate4x4.com, as did the links. Great work, great prices. Close up of the passenger side: You can see that I had to relocate the sway bar bracket higher to clear the tie rod. The open bracket above the tie rod is for the stock stabilizer. I will mount the ram there. Pitman arm close up: The clearance is good, but I need to grind just a small area off the frame bracket for the steering box - you can see where it rubs for full-stop left turns. I think it only does because of the twisting of the TRE. It won't be much, and I can reinforce that bracket if I think it needs it. For now, it's fine. Close up of driver side: I didn't need to move the swaybar bracket, but I did have to 'clearance' it just a bit. |
